Spring 2011 preview: What we loved at New York Fashion Week

MY FAVOURITE…PARTY:
The reopening of Chanel’s SoHo store. The guest list included S.J.P., Liv Tyler, Jessica Stam, Blake Lively, DJ/It girl Alexa Chung and the man of the hour, Karl Lagerfeld. Guests channelled their inner Basquiat by grabbing a canister of Chanel-branded infrared spray paint from one of the handsome cater waiters and unleashing on the digital graffiti wall.
MY FAVOURITE…SHOW:
Michael Kors’ sunshine state of mind. I can’t get enough of his cool-as-a-cucumber crinkled linens, tissue cashmeres and hand smocking.

MY FASHION’S NIGHT OUT
THE PLACE: Bergdorf Goodman
THE HIGHLIGHT: Almost getting trampled to catch a glimpse of Tom Ford. (Yes, he is that handsome.)
THE BUY: Limited-edition Bergdorf FNO tote bag.

 MY MOMENT OF THE WEEK
Reviewing Tom Ford’s top-secret debut eponymous womenswear collection at his Madison Avenue store. Think new power dressing: menswear-inspired suitings, “summer furs” (shredded organza cropped jackets), gold sequined gowns, leopard print with netting, satin needle-toe heels, cat-eye aviators and over-the-shoulder flap bags with thick gold zipper details. Two words: Wait. List.

EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT…
Mercedes-Benz fashion week’s new home (the tricked-out, teched-out Lincoln Center); the new lacklustre front row of reality TV stars like Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and Stephanie Pratt; and bed bugs.

I WANT…
Ralph Lauren’s blanket bag, Prabal Gurung’s colour-blocked frock and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s translucent trench coat.
