Will Fashion Shows Take Us Forward?

Fashion is not a choice anymore. People from all walks of life are conscious about making a statement with their clothing, accessories and outlook.

Moreover, if someone pretends not to care about the contemporary fashion and dress according to their own sense of style – That becomes a personal “fashion” move itself! Who can be a better example of this than the iconic Lady Gaga – Her outrageous attire and unconventional behavior (along with unmatched musical talent, of course) has landed her on the top of her profession.So, we all agree that fashion & style are strong elements to have. In Pakistan, the fashion scene was subliminal in earlier decades. Expression of creativity was subdued by cultural and religious barriers. However, near the end of 20th century, Pakistani designers had a renaissance. They proudly presented the cultural creativity and East-West fusion lines. The fashion icons like Maheen Khan, Nilofar Shahid, Rizwan Beyg, Tariq Amin, B.G., Nabeela, Mussarat Misbah, etc. Belong to the first generation of renowned individuals creating tidal waves in Pakistani fashion. They brought Pakistani style to global arena by their endless efforts.

These contributors are not restricted to dress designers only, but makeup artists, celebrity stylists, photographers, etc. Following their trail, there was a mass of budding talent. HSY, Karma, Nomi Ansari, Maria B., Sobia Nazir, Hajra Hayat, Sana Safinaz, etc. belong to that era.

The collections of Pakistani designers being showcased in local fashion shows and international stages attained fame and recognition. Our models flaunted their beauty, talent and culture in front of the world. Hence, the combined efforts have nurtured our fashion success. Pakistani style may not rule the global arena, but it is vouched for by many. Fashion shows certainly helped us to present an organized display of Pakistani clothes. We can undoubtedly say that fashion shows helped us move forward in the competitive world of style. We need to do amendments and improvements in this to keep it going, but we cannot deny its significance.
